A bolt tightening ceremony, attended by Caroline Flint MP for the Don Valley, was held on Monday the 26th April 2004. The ceremony heralded the beginning of the steel framework for the new terminal buildings for Robin Hood Airport. Bob King and Brian Turton attended the ceremony on behalf of Billington. With nearly 1500 tonnes of steelwork to manufacture, including complex, tubular, waveform trusses this project highlighted the manufacturing and construction excellence of Billington Structures Limited. 

With a price tag of £80 million, the UK's newest International airport for 30 years has the capacity to serve 2.3 million passengers and 50,000 tonnes of freight per year. Thompson Holidays and Thompsonfly began flying passengers to Spain, Greece, Italy and Portugal in 2005. With one of the longest runways in the North of England, the airport has the capacity to fly long haul destinations to the Far East, America and the Caribbean.
