Ikea Distribution Centre Peterborough
Date: 01/06/2002
Location: Central Midlands
Project value: £2,525,000.00
It stretches for over one kilometre and has a footprint of nearly 20 football pitches. At nearly thirty metres high it towers above its rivals and is one of the largest structures in the UK. It is rumoured to be clearly visible from space, although no confirmation of the alien observer has yet been forthcoming. Billington Structures are pleased to announce that they are responsible for the giant steel structure providing the skeleton for the new Ikea Distribution Centre at Fletton on the Fens. With a mix of high bay and standard portal frames, Billington have supplied over 3000 tonnes of steelwork to create the enormous structural skeleton. The building, which was fully operational by March 2003 is Britain's third largest warehouse and follows on from the incredible structure manufactured by Billington for Ikea in Doncaster. Billington completed ahead of programme and were delighted to be part of the same team that built the previous Doncaster facility. As far as alien observers and the time space continuum are concerned, this is another example of Billington's capability to fold time to meet a client's most stringent programme requirements.
