The Yorkshire Branch of the Institution of Structural Engineers judged the City Point development in Leeds worthy of receiving their Excellence in Structural Design award. The building, which provides 5,762m2 of Grade A office space over 7 floors at the heart of Leeds’ Commercial Centre, is a steel structure above ground level, principally Cellbeam floor construction with composite steel decking.
The Judges commented that, ‘The corner site design had to accommodate two very different façade styles presented by adjacent buildings. The resulting geometry is both striking and intriguing.
‘Equally impressive is the structural scheme for strengthening foundations and basement walls and the skilled deployment of columns and floor beams to accommodate complex internal open plan layout and façade support.
