Barnsley workmates in tribute to colleague

A charity bike ride held extra meaning for colleagues at Barnsley’s Billington Structures Ltd when it became a tribute to a former workmate Nick Moore who died earlier this year.

The group of cyclists, who every couple of years have taken to the off road trails around their South Yorkshire base since 1992 raising in excess of £40,000-for local charities. This year’s 40 mile ride held on October 10th will raise well over £7,000, all the money donated will be given to the Silkstone Community and Scout Hall, which Nick was helping to rebuild.

More than 30 staff, friends, partners and children took part, including Nick’s young son and Nick’s father, setting off from the Billington factory at Wombwell. The route of the fundraising ride took in three of the five new schools which Billington are currently helping to build in Barnsley.

Steve Fareham, Managing Director of Billington Structures and ride planner said: “The event was particularly poignant for our team and our thoughts were with the family of Nick Moore, who died earlier this year in a motor cycle accident while on holiday in France. Nick was a valued member of our team and he was the man who masterminded our work on the local schools.”

“The cycle ride was a fitting tribute to Nick and it was for a cause that he supported. Looking at the new schools as they go up was also a tribute to Nick’s hard work and commitment and he is sadly missed.”
