Billington Structures Ltd were awarded the prize for Business Growth at the 2008 Barnsley Business Awards, which took place at Barnsley's Brooklands Hotel on Friday 21 November.
The award recognised Billington's achievement of significant and sustained growth or development over the past three years. Since 2004, the company has increased its turnover by 43% to £55m and seen an associated increase in pre-tax profit of 319% (£4.5m).
The prestige of this award is highlighted by the quality of the other shortlisted companies:
Stagecoach Yorkshire - part of one of the largest bus operators in the UK;
Lavender International NDT Consultancy - offering non-destructive testing services to both national and international customers;
Haigh Pettican Ltd - pipeline construction using the latest technology in welding fabrication and installation.
The judges commented that this was a close run contest, making it all the more special that Billington won.
