As building work comes to an end at new school in Nottinghamshire, Barnsley firm Billington Structures has played a major role in the construction process.
Appointed by main contractor, Willmott Dixon Construction, Billington Structures supplied in excess of 160 tonnes of structural steelwork to provide the frame for the new Carlton Digby school building.
To mark the end of the steel erection, a special bolt tightening ceremony was organised which included attendance from pupils of the school, a representative from Willmott Dixon and Billington Structures, as well as Carol Pepper, the Vice Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council. Carol, pictured above, was escorted into a cherry picker to “tighten” the last bolt with a platinum spanner donated by Billington Structures in association with Willmott Dixon.
The new Carlton Digby Special School provides a modern environment to meet the needs of the pupils. Particular features include therapy facilities, a hydrotherapy pool and library.
