The 2001 RIBA Sterling Prize "Building of the Year"
Billington's trade package was for the supply and erection of four main structures - the Earth, Air, Fire and Water Pavilions - together with the elevated link walkways. The Air pavilion included parabolic hollow cigar beams which spanned 21metres between the existing crane girders. The Water Pavilion was eliptical in cross-section with spiral end frames constructed on site from 300 diameter circular hollow section.
All the steel was erected inside the existing Templeborough Steel Mill
This complex project earned Billington the "Specialist Contractor of the Year Award" run by Contract Journal Magazine.
