Coventry Water Park and Leisure Centre

COVENTRY

The Coventry Water Park and Leisure Centre, also known as ‘The Wave’ will provide the city centre with a state-of-the-art leisure facility.

The £36m development will provide a water park with a range of slides, a lazy river, wave pool, spa, 25m-long swimming pool, 120 station gym, dance studio and squash courts. The new complex will replace an existing council office block, on a tightly constrained site, that sits next to the city’s 70m-high Grade II-listed Christchurch Spire. This is one of the city’s historical landmarks.

Billington Structures provided over 1100 tonnes of structural steel on this project. To form the rooftop diagrid, Billington installed a total of 14 trusses, seven spanning in one direction and the others spanning at an adjusted angle of 90 degrees.

At the UK Tekla Awards, we received two awards for this project –  Sports & Recreation, and the Public Vote.
