Coventry Waterpark

Main Contractor, Buckingham Group has been tasked with building a new leisure complex and waterpark in the heart of Coventry. Once complete, it will house a 25-metre swimming pool, gym, climbing wall, squash courts, dance studio and day spa, not to mention an array of waterslides.

This compact city centre construction site was originally home to the local council offices and is situated next to the Grade II-listed Christchurch Spire, creating additional challenges and constraints during construction.

Billington have been contracted to erect over 1,000 tonnes of steelwork, including a roof structure comprising pre-cambered two-way spanning lattice girders, from which the waterslide structures will eventually be hung.

Although the roof appears circular on plan, an intricate fabrication process is required in order to create the lattice diagrid roof trusses.

The waterpark is scheduled to open in spring 2019 and will be a fantastic landmark for the city.
