how we work

manufacture

Billington enjoys the flexibility of two state of the art factories in the North at Barnsley and in the South near Bristol. With a combined weekly capability in excess of 500 tonnes, we are able to manufacture sufficient steelwork to meet even the most demanding of programmes.

Both sites have a loyal, trained and highly skilled workforce and utilise either Peddinghaus or Ficep CNC machines that are fed with data directly from our drawing offices.

A just in time manufacturing process is utilised with steel being supplied from Corus Distribution, in planned 'Lots'. Fittings and main shafts, are assembled and painted in up to 20 tonne erectable batches that are monitored through the production process in our GODATA production control system.

Fittings are produced and marked for identification on one of our four CNC machines.

Main shafts are produced and marked for identification and assembly on one of our three CNC saw and drill lines and or CNC coping line.

Our in house beam straightening / cambering machine provides us with the ability to camber all sizes and types of steel sections.

Painting is carried out in a purpose built controlled environment. For the majority of our assemblies, shot-blasting is carried out after fabrication, thus ensuring that all items are thoroughly cleaned, prior to the application of the paint.
