The award, sponsored by the Barnsley Chronicle recognised Billington's achievement of significant and sustained growth or development over the past three years. Since 2004, the company has increased its turnover by 43% to £55m and seen an associated increase in pre-tax profit of 319% (£4.5m).

Having previously won the award, it came as a shock to be short-listed for the second year running. There are some excellent companies competing for this award and we feel honoured to be amongst some of the best specialist contractors in construction. Billington's belief in continuous improvement has been unfaltering and this short-listing proves once again that training, experience and continual improvement are the foundations of success.

At the recent Builder and Engineer Awards in Manchester, witnessed by the cream of the Northern Construction Industry, Billington picked up the "Specialist Contractor of the Year" Award for their 3D modelling and manufacturing capabilities not to mention their Health and Safety innovations and procedures. The judges were highly impressed with Billington's ability to completely satisfy their partners and customers. The most hotly contested award went to a worthy winner who’s credentials are second to none.
Building Magazine Awards - Winner - Structural Specialist of the Year

Billington has a reputation within the construction community as one of the most advanced subcontractors around. This is well deserved, as wherever you look, Billington has been at the forefront of construction's age of enlightenment. It has developed a futuristic IT system that takes a project from preliminary design to the as-built manual. It has adopted paperless transactions, 3D modelling, and is presently working on a single portal for all project information, to which every employee or supplier will be able to access through a single GPRS laptop portal.
Construction News Awards - Winner - Specialists in Construction Awards

Presented by Construction News, Billington Structures secured first ever "Steelwork Specialist of the Year" award. The award was presented to Steve Fareham MD at a glittering ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. Billington was hailed by the judges as, "Quite simply a superb company across the board of its operations". The award came as a result of Billington's exemplary work on major constructional steelwork projects throughout the UK.
Contract Journal Awards - Winner - Specialist Contractor & IT Award

Billington was named "Specialist Contractor of the Year 2004", (They also won it in 2001) picked up the Information Technology Award, and were shortlisted in two other categories, "Health and Safety" and "Product Manufacturer of the Year". According to one judge for the Specialist Contractor Award, "Billington's attitude is first class with all members of the supply chain regarded as part of the team".

Billington received a number of accolades after having been shortlisted 3 times for Building Magazine's Specialist Contractor Awards held in London at the Grosvenor House Hotel. Billington secured first place for Best Health and Safety Initiative, The STAR one minute risk assessment, were runner up for Best Innovation for their work with easi-edge edge protection systems and runner up in the best steelworker category to the biggest steelworker in the industry.
European Steel Design Awards

Billington Structures has been recognised in the prestigious European Steel Design Awards, for their structural steelwork on the Manchester Box Works development. Presented in Switzerland on 17th September, in front of an international audience at the annual forum of The European Convention for Constructional Steelwork (ECCS), Billington are delighted to have secured their first European Award.

Structural model for the Xscape

Billington structures has proved once again they are ahead of the game when it comes to drawing and detailing structural steelwork projects. They achieved a runner up position for their work on the Magna Project in 2002 and have just scored first place in the 2003 Awards for their work on the structural model for the Xscape, indoor ski slope project, in Castleford.
Institution of Structural Engineers

Billington Structures picked up their award for design excellence at the Institution of Structural Engineers Inaugural Meeting on the evening of the 16th October 2002. The Award was presented to Billington for their contribution to the new Bradford Transport Interchange, a tubular structure of some complexity. The award ws presented to Bob King, Billington's Business Development Manager, by Bob McKittrick, President of The Institution Of Structural Engineers.
Structural Steel Design Awards

At the Structural Steel Design Awards 2002 held at the Savoy Hotel, London, Billington earned another accolade to add to their already burgeoning portfolio. The Magna Structure in Rotherham received a commendation for the extraordinary development around the four elements Earth, Air, Fire and Water.

MAGNA - Billington Marketing Department - Winner the CMCA "Construction Marketing Awards" 2001. According to the Judges, "Billington won this award due to their extremely innovative and cost effective approach to marketing themselves within the Construction Industry.
The RIBA Sterling Prize
20th October 2001
"Building of the Year" was won by Architects Wilkinson Eyre of London for the Magna project in Rotherham. Billington Structures supplied the steelwork for the Earth, Air, Fire and Water Pavilions for the building.
